Department

The School of Arts and Communication is part of the multidisciplinary Faculty of Culture and Society. Also known by its acronym K3 (after the Swedish name Konst, Kultur och Kommunikation), our school has approximately 80 faculty members and 1,000 full-time students. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate education in the fields of media, interaction design and cultural studies. Our programmes and courses include English, Media and Communication Studies, Cultural Journalism, Visual Communication, Interaction Design as well as a range of courses in different types of media production. At K3, we combine traditional scholarship and academic knowledge with artistic methods and practical skills. Research at K3 is multi- and interdisciplinary, and is known internationally for contributing foundational knowledge and practical application to the fields of design, media, culture and the arts.  Our researchers are active in research platforms such as Medea, Collaborative Future Making and  Rethinking Democracy as well as the Internet of Things and People research centre and the Data Society research programme. K3 research is frequently carried out in collaboration with external stakeholders.

Work duties

We seek Teaching Assistants within the first year of either Interaction design Bachelors or first year Interaction design Master education, who will continue their education in the fall of 2021. As Teaching Assistant you will be part of a pool of students with main task to assist the teaching staff.

The work tasks involve assisting staff within the K3 educations, first and foremost within mechatronics. Examples of tasks are:

  • Teaching, tutoring at workshops and preparing teaching activities related to programming, microcontrollers and mechatronics.
  • Administrative tasks and participation in research projects or artistic development work may also occur.

Qualifications

Only those admitted to first or second-cycle courses and study programmes may be employed as teaching assistants (Chapter 5, Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

Specific requirements for this position:

  • Only students enrolled in either the interaction design bachelors- or master programmes are eligible to be employed as Teaching Assistants. 
  • Practical competences shown in portfolio.

The following would be of benefit for the position:

  • Programming: Prototyping in digital materials is central in the ioio mechatronics lab and anyone applying for this position should be interested in developing their own programming skills and also take part in related education.
  • Material and hardware knowledge: Materials such as, wood, metal, paint and electronics are all part of the daily practice and as a Teaching Assistant in the ioio mechatronics lab you should be open to develop knowledge of all, and willing to implement your skills into teaching.
  • Digital tool knowledge: We are looking for students familiar with computers as a tool for basic photo editing, video editing, 3D modelling and programming. 

In addition to formal competence, University's employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way. To be relevant for the position as Teaching Assistant, you must have the ability to work within the teaching-environment in the interaction design bachelor- and master programmes.

Miscellaneous

This is a temporary, part-time position up to 20 % of a full-time employment placed at the School of Arts and Communication (K3). This position offers roughly 1,5–5 hours per week during the autumn 2022 - spring 2023 (maximum one-year employment according to The Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 12).

According to the Higher Ordinance, Teaching Assistants may have up to a maximum of 50 % employment per year and may be extended for a maximum of three years.
