You are needed! Voluntary involvement forms the very basis of the Red Cross's work. Transit Jägersro is a volunteer activity for the Red Cross that visits the Migration Agency's immigration accommodation in Jägersro, Malmö. Transit Jägersro is the first stop in the south of Sweden for asylum seekers where they can register their asylum application and live if they have not obtained their own accomodation while waiting for the municipal placement. Our volunteers visits weekly to provide support, safe referrals of information and to activate both adults and children.

As team leader for Transit Jägersro, you contribute to strengthening the protection of the rights of asylum seekers. You provide, through conversations and activities, humane support to strengthen mental health and contribute to a dignified and humane treatment in a very vulnerable situation. The team leader also leads the volunteers in the activity and ensures that they receive the introduction, training and support required for the assignment. You are also involved during the visits.

Time: Thuesday 18.00-20.00

Mission description:

You are expected to

  • Participate regularly in visits to the transit accommodation.
  • Offer interpersonal support, such as conversations and activities.
  • Convey answers to any questions that the asylum seekers raise and refer them to other actors who can assist them.
  • Plan the visits and develop the activities.
  • Introduce new volunteers.
  • Participate in an introduction and online courses. You are also offered further training for the assignment.
  • Based on your mission, you are expected to be part of the Swedish Red Cross's crisis preparedness and be prepared to increase your commitment in the event of a crisis.

Scope:

You are expected to make visits on certain Tuesdays and otherwise you schedule the work as it suits the group.

You undertake to:

  • Make at least two visits a month, together with other volunteers in the group.
  • Commit to at least six months.
  • On a six months basis plan avtivities and volunteer care. 
  • Continuously conduct follow-up interviews as well as exit interviews with volunteers who complete their assignment.
  • Annually propose and follow up the operational plan and budget.
  • Sign a contract and a non-disclosure agreement with the Red Cross and show an extract from the criminal record and sign a confidentiality agreement with the Swedish Migration Agency

We presuppose that you share the Swedish Red Cross's view of humanity and humanitarian values. The basic principles of the Red Cross are guiding principles in all voluntary work and within the scope of the mission you sign a non-disclosure agreement and undergo the mandatory trainings/introductions required for the mission.

To be able to carry out the mission, you need:

  • Be at least 18 years old and have a residence permit in Sweden.
  • Experience of meeting people in crisis or difficult situations.
  • Have the ability to convey information in a simple and clear way.
  • It is advantageous if you can speak and understand languages ​​other than Swedish and English.

It is also important that you:

  • Are calm and confident in yourself and have good self-awareness.
  • Are empathetic and dare to meet people who get emotional.
  • Can set limits, both for yourself and others and stick to guidelines.
  • Are communicative and can easily work in groups.
