At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, information designers, network technicians and engineers. We have five research specializations with different research profiles and research schools. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

A full-time employment as a doctoral student is attached to this third-cycle studies which corresponds to four years. 

Position description

A PhD position mainly involves doctoral studies where the candidate, independently but with support from supervisors, will plan and conduct scientific studies. The doctoral education includes both literature studies and empirical studies, scientific writing of articles and dissertations, dissemination and oral presentation of research results, as well as attending doctoral courses.

As a doctoral student in the MoreTrust project, the candidate is expected to engage in regular research activities, both independently and in collaboration with other members of the project group and other researchers at IDT. The tasks also include possible project meetings, attendance and presentations at international research meetings, and reporting of project results to MoreTrust and Trusted Smart Systems (TSS).

As a doctoral student, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and conducting your studies, take initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and be able to collaborate with others both within and outside academia. Teaching or other assignments may be included in the position up to a maximum of 20%.                         

Qualifications

Assessment criteria

Prior to employment, consideration must be given to the ability to assimilate third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education.

In addition to this ability, particular emphasis will be placed on the following:

• Documented knowledge of software development for self-adaptive systems.
• Advanced use of English, both spoken and written.
• Documented programming skills (preferably Java and/or Python).
• General understanding of software modeling.
• Solid understanding of principles of software engineering, self-adaptation, and related technologies.
• Knowledge of model-driven engineering or cybersecurity is considered a plus but is not required.
• Knowledge of techniques and tools for model-driven engineering, domain-specific languages, and the use of one or more modeling platforms (e.g., Eclipse) is meritorious.

In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities. All employees at MDU are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organisation and their own work duties and contribute to a positive work environment.For this position, we are looking for someone who is meticulous and has good written and oral communication skills.
