The role

We are seeking a dedicated Accountant to join SEI Latin America’s Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing the organization’s accounting and financial systems in accordance with national and international regulations and non-profit accounting standards. You will assess, control and comply with tax obligations; establish procedures for managing accounting, financial and tax information; ensure the provision of truthful and timely information as required by regulations.

Your main responsibilities

  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare the monthly cash book.
  • Perform data entry and accounting functions with precision and accuracy.
  • Manage financial information for SEI LA and its projects.
  • Liaise with banks for payments and transfers.
  • Control inventory.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable and comply with accounting and financial policies and procedures.
  • Manage the expense reporting process.
  • Prepare monthly accounting reports.
  • Ensure timely submission of accounting information to the head office.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Review accounting entries and apply withholding tax to weekly payments.
  • Coordinate accounting outsourcing in relation to assigned functions.
  • Follow up on accounts receivable.
  • Utilize SIIGO accounting software and manage banking platform operations.
  • Submit payments to the banking platform for approval by the authorized approver.
  • Oversee the monetization and replenishment process.
  • Supervise the implementation of the due diligence policy according to the PTEE and Sagrilaft systems.
  • Take on new accounting responsibilities as the Centre grows, adapting new processes and responsibilities relevant to the accounting process.

Who you are

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, you will be  a team player in planning, developing and controlling accounting activities. These activities include handling accounting records, taxes, payroll, reports, income and expenses, costs, inventories, cash flow, fixed assets, project financial reports and the invoicing process. You will ensure the availability, clarity and accuracy of financial information to support decision-making by the Operations Management and the Centre Director.

Additionally, you should possess the following specific qualifications, skills and experience

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting or finance for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Completed studies in public accounting, finance or related fields.
  • Proven accounting experience of at least three years.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English.
  • Passionate about environmental issues and committed to the mission of SEI.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, high sense of responsibility, teamwork and willingness to take initiative.
  • Team-oriented with a can-do attitude, creativity and prudence.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF and SIIGO.
  • Ability to meet deadlines effectively.
