As part of SEI’s ongoing research on Indigenous rights and natural resource governance, we are looking for an intern to support the CONSULT (Agents of change within a colonial state? The role of “interface bureaucrats” in natural resource consultation) project. The study will evaluate the extent to which the  statutory consultation process (Bill 2022:66) has improved Sámi influence in decision-making processes that impact their communities.

What you will do

The internship will consist of three main tasks:

  • retrieval of documents from Swedish government agencies
  • review and analysis of government documents
  • writing of internal reports.

The work can be adapted depending on your educational background and we welcome applicants from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including social sciences and environmental studies. We already have some concrete ideas for the design of the study already, but also hope for the intern to help shape the work, based on their own interests and competencies.

Who you are

  • A student nearing completion of a master’s degree in a relevant subject such as political science, human geography or environmental studies
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Swedish. Given the nature of the documents, it is a requirement to be fluent in Swedish.
  • Knowledge of Sámi culture or prior experience working with Indigenous peoples is advantageous.

How to apply

We are reviewing applications on an ongoing basis so please submit your application as soon as possible, however no later than 1 May, 23:59 CET.

We only accept applications through our recruitment system; please apply online using the button below and submit the following:
