We are seeking a radiochemist in Marine radioecology.

The position

As a principal research engineer, you will participate in a marine research project. In this project, we will study the association of reactive elements with marine particles. In your role, you will conduct sampling, sample preparation and measurement of radioactive substances at ultra-low level concentrations. Additionally, as part of the group, you will write reports and research articles. Within the research group, collaboration skills are essential, but you should also be able to work independently and take responsibility for daily tasks.

The person

We are looking for someone who is open minded, collaborates well in a group, is responsible, can also take initiative and perform tasks independently, and is organized.

The following education, experience and expertise are required:

  • You should have a Ph.D. in radiochemistry.
  • You should have experience in analysing radioactivity at ultra-low activity levels.
  • You should be able to perform measurements using Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC) and gamma spectroscopy.
  • You should have extensive experience working in a radiometric laboratory.
  • You should have very good knowledge of both spoken and written English

In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:

  • Experience with field work and sampling
  • Conducted part of the doctoral work as a guest in a laboratory other than that of the home university.

The workplace

You will be working in the environmental radiology group at the Department of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (DISP). The group currently consists of 9 individuals, and our research focuses on three main areas: i) marine radioecology, ii) internal dosimetry, and iii) radiation protection preparedness. The group operates three laboratories for sample processing, radiochemistry and radiometric analyses. In our research areas, we analyze alpha-, beta-, and gamma-emitting radionuclides. The radiometric laboratory is equipped with alpha-, gamma-spectrometers and liquid scintillators (LSC), and through collaboration, we have access to ICP-MS and AMS instruments.

The employment

It is a fixed-term empoyment för 6 months, starting according to agreement.

Background screening may come to be carried out before any decision on employment is made.
