Norrkoping

Reference number IKOS-2024-00195

We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting the challenges of the day. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching and administration may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered an advantage if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We seek applicants with a PhD degree in the humanities, social sciences, or artistic research. You should submit a proposal for an original, coherent and achievable research project. The project can draw on any method and theory, and use empirical sources from any location/language. However, the project should be formulated in such a way that it clearly shows added-value to heritage or memory studies, i. e. how the past is used in contemporary society.  This opens up for a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: studies on museums, archives or nature/cultures, new technology and heritage, studies on/with artistic and curatorial practices on the uses of the past, or heritage, revitalisation and sustainability.

Publications in high-quality journals are considered a merit. A successful track-record in research collaboration and in research applications will be prioritized.

Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing is a requirement. Proficiency in Swedish is considered a merit.

We value interdisciplinary openness, experience and willingness to explore new perspectives. You are active in the research community, participate in activities of the division such as seminars and workshops, engage in research projects, communicate results through academic publications. We expect you to be present and active in the environment in order to perform your duties in an optimal way and contribute to our working community.

The workplace

You will be employed at Tema Culture and Society in the Division of Culture, Society, Design and Media (KSFM) at the Department of Culture and Society. Tema Culture and Society (Tema Q) has a long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary research. Researchers at Tema Q share a critical and analytical approach to cultural heritage and the circulation of knowledge, with a particular focus on social, creative, economic, legal and political dimensions of everyday life, media, institutions and archives. Our research in heritage studies is especially focused on critically understanding digital practices through the political, democratic, economic and material effects of the digitization and globalization of meaningful pasts. Furthermore, our research focuses on the relations between intellectual property and cultural heritage, and on ownership and the use of common assets in relation to traditional knowledge and natural resources.
