PhD student in scientific visualization
formally based at the Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

The scientific visualization group at Linköping University is focused on research ranging from basic research questions in scientific visualization, with a focus on topological data analysis, to a wide range of application driven questions. A primary interest is developing reliable methods based on rigid mathematical foundations targeting visualization needs from specific applications.

The doctoral student will adapt methods from topological data analysis to enable robust, multi-scale feature-tracking used as basis for the visual exploration of complex data sets. The project is driven by scientific questions from applications in climate science, physics and medicine. The research goals include

-  Application of topological methods for the analysis of tensor fields, e.g. diffusion tensors, in medical application
-  Development of descriptive data summaries that can be used for the comparison of data fields
-  Tracking of topological structures over time and detection of changes
-  Development of a visualization concepts for the interactive exploration of the tracking results

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

The candidate should hold a MS degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a closely related subject. The candidate should have excellent programming skills in c/c++ or similar, and good knowledge of graphics programming. Fluency in spoken and written English is also a requirement. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: experiences in topological data analysis, pattern recognition, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.
