at the Department of Zoology. Closing date: 20 May 2021.
The Department of Zoology at Stockholm University consists of five divisions: Ecology, Ethology, Functional Zoomorphology, Population Genetics and Systematics & Evolution. The department accommodates 45–50 staff and a similar number of PhD students.
The advertised researcher position will be placed in the Division of Population Genetics at the Department of Zoology. Candidates will use experimental evolution paired with genome sequencing of the model organism budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (and its relatives) to study evolutionary processes. Current research in the lab focuses on 1) the dynamics of adaptation to stressful environments, and 2) the effects of genetic exchange and hybridization between divergent lineages on adaptive evolution. The researcher is free to design their own projects as long as they overlap conceptually with existing research interests of the lab.
This position is 100% research within the project areas described above.
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in evolution, quantitative thinking and a background and population genetics. Ideally, the candidate has experience in experimental evolution, molecular genetics/genomics, and bioinformatics. Prior training in cultivation and genetic engineering of Saccharomyces is desirable. Applicants should be well-organized, good communicators, and happy to work in a team as well as independently.
