Project description
Structural biology of supercomplexes is a young and emerging field. However, the assignment of individual subunits and cofactors is challenging, and indeed multiple mistakes have been reported. A general architecture of the membrane photosystem complex I curving around Lhca9 and its position is flexible. The mobile subunit Lhca9 was shown to switch between the ‘tight’ and loose’ forms. Mechanistically, the structures informed that plastocyanin is not equally able to access its sites in photosystem I, suggesting its oxidation is a major rate-limiting step. The goal of the project is to isolate the mega-complex and investigate its substrate channeling by cryo-EM.

Main responsibilities
The position involves research in the field of cryo-EM, independent use of the Titan-Krios microscope for a single-particle and tomography data collection, data processing, and manuscript preparation.

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills, publication track record, and previous experience in difficult problem solving. Previous experience is required in the field of structural biology of bioenergetic complexes.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension. Start date as per agreement.
