The Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) is looking for two Research Assistants in Economics. As part of the job, you will provide data work support to research projects at the Institute. The position offers great development opportunities for those interested in participating in internationally leading economic research.

IIES is one of the leading research institutes in economics in the Nordic countries and Europe. The institute aims to produce leading economic research on important societal issues. Main responsibilities
As a research assistant, you will work closely with a team of researchers on frontier research projects in economics. The team works on several new and ongoing projects on inequality and unemployment using state-of-the-art empirical techniques to answer policy-relevant questions of our time. We use large administrative datasets to help design better policies and expand the current boundary of our knowledge.

The tasks will include the construction of new data by scanning and digitizing books and documents from historical archives, data management, cleaning and preparation, data analysis, and preparation of results. You will also create statistical results and instructive figures to present results.

The position offers the opportunity to gain exposure to various stages of the research process and valuable training in using data-intensive methods. This is a valuable experience both for jobs in the private- and public sector, as well as for pursuing further education.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for candidates with a university education in economics or a related field (e.g.

computer science, engineering, mathematics), for example someone who is enrolled in or have just completed a master’s program in economics or a related field. You should have  experience working with data using Stata, R, or Python, the ability to work independently and within a team environment to solve problems. Moreover, you should have good organizational skills and attention to detail.

The working language is English and you are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English both orally and in writing. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage, but not a requirement

Terms of employment
The position is full-time and limited to 12 months, but no longer than until June 30 2025. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary.
