Main responsibilities
The position is associated with the Digital Futures research pairs consolidator project Layering Trust in Intimate Digital Health Technologies: Learning from Challenging Experiences. In the project we have conducted a landmark, large-scale qualitative study of the first algorithmic contraceptive on the market, Natural Cycle. We are now examining what happens when trust in digital intimate health technologies breaks down and how we might co-design user experience mechanisms to re-establish trust when it has been challenged or lost. The main responsibilities of the research assistant will include empirical and design work related to intimate health technology. The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor Airi Lampinen at Stockholm University as well as in close collaboration with Professor Madeline Balaam at KTH. The work is situated in a multidisciplinary HCI research group with extensive international collaborations.

Qualification requirements
We welcome applicants with a background in Interaction Design, HCI or a related field. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish master’s degree, or an equivalent degree from another country.

We are looking for someone with strong empirical research skills and design competence to support our research on intimate health technology, with a particular focus on illustrating design ideas and preparing co-design workshops.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to the following criteria:

  • Research expertise: A track record demonstrating excellence in the empirical study of bodily and collaborative aspects of technology use. Prior experience of planning co-design workshops and preparing materials for them is beneficial
  • Illustration skills: A track record of excellence in visualizing research findings and design ideas in the form of pictures and diagrams that illustrate technology use. Prior publications that feature such illustrations (or a portfolio with relevant materials) is a must
  • Collaborative abilities: Ability to work as a part of team, and evidence of active involvement in collaborative research projects
  • Communication abilities: Ability to fluently communicate research ideas and results. This should include both written outputs and presentations/demos at conferences.
