The Department is mainly located with the other Departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences, which are situated in the northern part of the University Campus at Frescati. Presently more than 300 people are working at the Department of which about 110 are PhD students engaged in internationally highly recognized research covering a broad range of subjects.
The project associated with the position will investigate the interaction between microplastics and microorganisms in marine snow aggregates focusing on the properties of the aggregates and on the degradation of microplastics. The main method will be infrared spectroscopy.
The position involves to plan, organize, and perform research, to carry out experiments, interpret the results, and to publish them in scientific journals.
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
We would like to see a candidate with a doctoral degree in chemistry or a similar field. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills in microplastics research, research on microorganisms, and the interpretation of infrared spectra of chemical polymers and biomolecules. Previous experience in microscopy and image analysis is a merit. Experience of research that uses infrared spectroscopy is important.
We are looking for a candidate who is responsible, able to solve problems, and meticulous. Of importance is also professional experience in conducting and publishing research independently and in the usage of advanced equipment. God ability in oral and written communication in English is important in this role. Great emphasis will be given to personal competency.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for one year, with the possibility of extension. Start date as per agreement.
