The Department of Law is one of the largest departments at Stockholm University with approximately 200 employees and approximately 5,500 students. Just over one hundred teachers are engaged full-time to teach or conduct research. The faculty has around thirty professors with various jurisprudential specializations.
Project description
The postdoctoral position is located at the Department of Law and is tied to the Stockholm Center on Global Governance (SCGG). SCGG is a center of excellence at Stockholm University, which is funded by the Swedish Research Council and which promotes interdisciplinary research about global governance. The center also offers teaching and societal engagement on the topic of global governance. The postdoctor will be part of a group of five postdoctors with different disciplinary backgrounds joining the center.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibility for the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct research within the SCGG, by collecting own materials, drafting, and dissemination of research results via scientific journals and at conferences. The research will focus on phenomena relevant for global governance. In addition, the postdoctor should proactively participate in the organization of seminars and workshops within the center. The position also includes teaching and examination corresponding to up to 20% in public international law (basic course, special courses and master's program in the subject).
The postdoctor will contribute to the center’s research environment and proactively participate in the center activities. This includes lectures, workshops, and conferences, and the organization of seminars.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
Special emphasis will be placed on the scientific experience of the candidate. We are particularly interested in candidates with merits in research relevant for international relations or global governance. Additional merits include capacity to work in an international cross-disciplinary team of researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond academia. The candidate must have excellent skills in academic written English. The postdoctor is expected to contribute research in line with SCGG’s overarching mandate and questions, and the work will be conducted in dialogue with the center leadership.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
