Research assistant in songbird field work (temporary employment)

The Department of Zoology is one of the departments at the Faculty of Science. The main research areas are Ethology, Ecology, Population Genetics, Functional Morphology and Systematics.

Main responsibilities
The applicant’s main responsibilities would to organize and help conduct monitoring of a breeding population of wild pied flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca). The applicant would work closely with PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and field assistants to ensure that daily monitoring (e.g., arrival of birds and breeding activity) and tasks (e.g., ringing, phenotypic measurements, blood sampling, song recording) are completed. In addition, the applicant would help conduct behavioural and ecological experiments.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone with extensive experience conducting field work on wild songbirds. Experience monitoring, handling, and ringing birds is essential. The applicant must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively. Organizational/leadership skills, and a valid driver’s license are beneficial.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, temporary position starting from 2024-04-15 until 2024-07-15. Start and end date are somewhat flexible depending on the breeding activity. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary.
