The Department of Physics is one of the biggest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. It has about 250 employees of which 95 are PhD students. Many have been internationally recruited. The Department is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which apart from the Department of Physics houses the Department of Astronomy, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita). 

Integrated photonics is a promising technology for future quantum science and technology and offer exceptional advantages for applications in quantum computing, quantum communication and quantum sensing.  Th goal of the project is the implementation of quantum photonic processor including design, simulation, fabrication, and characterization of quantum photonic circuits.

This summer internship project will take place in the quantum information and quantum optics group at Stockholm University headed by Prof. Mohamed Bourennane. It is financed by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation through EDU-WACQT, an initiative to strengthen Swedish basic education in quantum technology.

Main responsibilities
The project assistant's task is the design, simulation and characterization of quantum photonic integrated circuits.

Qualification requirements
Ongoing undergraduate studies in physics, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Knowledge of C, C ++, Python, and VHDL programming is an advantage. As the work environment is international, good communication skills in English are required. The work also presupposes a good ability to work together.

Terms of employment
Temporary employment of 2.5-5 months with scope 50-100 % during the summer-autumn 2024. Start date and scope are determined in consultation with the project manager. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting,so feel free to state salary claims. Access as soon as possible.
