The Department of Economy and Society at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg announces 1 position as senior lecturer in Innovation, entrepreneurship and management of intellectual assets located at the Unit for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

The Department of Economy & Society conducts education and research within three different subject areas; Economic History, Human Geography, and Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management of Intellectual Assets. The different subjects within the department create possibilities to carry out interdisciplinary education and research.

The unit for innovation and entrepreneurship offers single-subject courses at the Bachelor´s level, two Master´s programmes (MSc in Innovation and Industrial Management; MSc in Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship), and  doctoral education. The position is an important recruitment to our international center, U-GOT KIES,  and on-going international research projects. Reseach in this position/s will be within Professor McKelvey’s Distinguished Professors Program from the Swedish Research Council on knowledge-intensive entrepreneurial ecosystems. Gothenburg U-GOT KIES centre has research themes related to an economic & business perspective on innovation management, innovation studies and entrepreneurship.

Subject area description

Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management of Intellectual Assets is a subject to analyze and explain innovation and entrepreneurship processes; their determinants; and social and economic outcomes.

Job assignments

The aim of this senior lecturer position is to secure and strengthen both teaching and research within innovation and entrepreneurship at the department. The senior lecturer shall actively participate in the department’s research environment in innovation and entrepreneurship and take an active role in its organization and coordination. The senior lecturer will also be expected, together with the department’s other teachers, to take a broad responsibility for developing the content and quality of teaching.

Specific tasks:

  • Teach and continue the development work in the educational programs and courses which the department gives in this subject. Teaching is conducted both in Swedish and in English
  • Actively develop a leadership role within education, through for example, course and program responsible
  • Actively participate in the scientific seminars
  • Initiate and conduct research projects and programs about innovation and entrepreneurship, which are externally financed
  • Strengthen and develop research in innovation and entrepreneurship from an economic and business perspective and collaborate with researchers in the Gothenburg U-GOT KIES center
  • Through a broader research collaborative network both nationally and internationally contribute to a dynamic and inclusive research environment of high international reputation
  • Through collaboration with business, public sector and civil society contribute to the distribution and use of research results also to develop new research trajectories and further develop our education.
  • Teach or else be responsible for department duties of currently a minimum of 35%. Teaching at all levels may be allocated as tasks.
  • In addition to own research financed by external grants, the senior lecturers at the department also have some time allocated to research and development

Eligibility

Qualification for the employment of teaching staff is set forth in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's own appointments procedures.

Eligible to be employed as a senior lecturer is a person who latest at the time of application, has completed a doctoral degree, or has achieved equivalent scholarly competence.

In order to be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management of Intellectual Assets also required:

  1. PhD degree (or equivalent scientific competence) within the subject of Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management of Intellectual, or a Swedish or international PhD degree which is evaluated as corresponding to such a degree
  2. Qualified is the person who masters a high level of English in speech and writing. For teachers’ positions the person is expected to master Swedish within two years.

Assessment

The assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are set out in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, in the University of Gothenburg’s own appointments procedure and Appointment Regulations for Teachers at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg.

Due to the defined work assignments of this position, documented merits are required and highly valued and particularly meritorious with regards to:

  • Documented experience of high quality teaching at all level, especially within innovation management, innovation studies and entrepreneurship
  • Documented experience in supervising Masters students
  • Documented experience in involvement in PhD education, such as courses and supervising PhD students
  • Research of high quality towards the subject Innovation, entrepreneurship & management of intellectual assets. Research that is close to the department’s research themes with an economic perspective on innovation management, innovation studies and entrepreneurship are particularly meritorious, as this facilitates integration into the existing research and teaching environment. Particularly meritorious is for publications in peer-review international scientific journals and/or books and book chapters by international academic publishers during the past 5 years.
  • Progression and advancement of research after the PhD degree (equivalent) including ability to initiate and lead research and development work. Particularly meritorious is the documented ability to successfully apply for external funding for research projects and for major research programs involving PhD students and junior researchers.
  • Experience of international research collaboration
  • Collaboration with society, including popularization of scientific results

Personal suitability as well as good management and administrative skills are of high importance for the appointment of employment. Good cooperation skills and general suitability to fulfill the relevant tasks. You should be able to work independently as well as in a team.

Employment

The employment is a permanent position with an extent of 100 % of full time, located at the Unit of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Department of Economy and Society. Starting date is 1 January 2025 or upon agreement. The department applies test appointment (for permanent positions).

An external assessment procedure will be carried out by external experts. During the selection process also includes interviews, written tests, trial lectures and reference checks.
