Student assistants to Welcome Services

About 280 people work at the Facility Services, providing expert support and delivering service to the entire university.

Welcome Services is a section within Facility Services that offers housing, information, activities, advice and support to international researchers, staff and students, as well as to departments at the University of Gothenburg. Our services include the rent of temporary guest and student housing, which involves significant administration with regards to bookings and welcoming our international guests, as well as extensive handling of practical matters. In addition to the work focused on housing, Welcome Services is responsible for a comprehensive introduction and welcome programme for international staff and international students, at the start of the semester as well as on a running basis throughout the year. Welcome Services also arranges information sessions and continuing professional development for university staff within the area of international recruitment.

Around ten people work at the Welcome Services today. Welcome Services is located in newly renovated offices in Studenternas hus in central Gothenburg.

We are now hiring 8-10 persons for intermittent employment/employment by the hour for the period 1 May 2024 – 31 March 2025. We welcome applications from both national and international students.

Duties 

The job consists of assisting Welcome Services during the Welcome Programme for new international students at the start of each semester as well as at the start of the summer school in June, and at events taking place during the semester.

The job includes:

  • welcoming international students in the field as they arrive by aeroplane, train, bus, or ferry, directing them onto buses
  • event preparation, such as readying a venue for an event and restoring it to its original state afterwards
  • event execution, such as taking charge of activities during an event, serving as guides for visitors at the event, and handling tasks that arise during the event

You might also be asked to participate in panel discussions on stage about various aspects of international student life in Sweden.

Other tasks of administrative or practical art may occur.

Qualifications 

You are a student at the University of Gothenburg and have completed at least one full semester. You have experience of having previously worked with the tasks specified above, such as arranging activities within, for example, the student union or other type of associational life. It is meritorious to have experience of having studied abroad, in order to have an understanding of the people you meet at work here.

To succeed in the role, you are required to possess good English language skills, both oral and written. You are outgoing and comfortable with speaking in front of others in English, both to individuals and in front of a group or on stage. Providing good service and treating people with respect is important to you. You are structured and able to convey information in a clear and precise manner, and you enjoy sharing your experiences as a student at the University. We are seeking candidates with the ability to collaborate effectively.

Particular emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

 Employment 

The position, located at Welcome Services at Facility Services at the University of Gothenburg, is intermittent/by the hour and spans the period 1 May 2024 – 31 March 2025. Work opportunities and the number of working hours per month will vary based on operational needs. Your formal title will be assistant.

The salary will be an hourly rate plus holiday pay. In addition to the salary, you will receive work experience which will count as a merit in your future career.

You official title on the employment will be Assistant.
