Core Facilities is a university-wide Life Science research infrastructure located at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. Here you have access to some of Sweden's most advanced techniques and analysis tools for research in eg. medicine, biomedicine and clinical studies. All our units have strong national and international profiles and are part of national research infrastructures such as SciLifeLab. The units at Core Facilities are equipped with advanced instrumentation and highly competent and specialized staff. Next to highly qualified research support, our experts also offer theoretical education and practical courses. Our infrastructure is open to all researchers from Swedish and international institutions as well as private industry. 

The Bioinformatics and Data Centre (BDC) is a unit within Core Facilities at the University of Gothenburg that provides expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to research group at the University of Gothenburg and contributes to the development of new methodologies at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. BDC is also part of the Science for Life Laboratory Clinical Genomics platform, a national resource consisting of over 100 experts that promotes national clinical research and supports the development and implementation of new diagnostic methods within healthcare. We are looking for a skilled statistician specialized in biostatistics and big data to join the team at BDC. You will contribute with your expertise within statistics in the analysis of data of complex datasets for both clinical and research purposes. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply cutting-edge methods and interact with leading researchers and clinical staff across Sweden.

 

Duties 

As a statistician within biostatistics you will work with interdisciplinary teams, handling multiple projects simultaneously. You will develop tools and statistical methods which you will be offering as routine services to researchers. Your duties are carried out independently or in teams, which requires flexibility and adaptability. It is also important to be able to work in a time-efficient manner based on the scientific requirements of our users, as well as maintaining a high quality.

 

Qualifications 

  • You must have PhD in mathematical statistics or related subjects the employer considers relevant to the position.

 

Essential for the role: 

  • Minimum of 2 years working in a research infrastructure with biostatistics. This includes:
    • Strong theoretical knowledge within biostatistics.
    • Intermediate to advance proficiency in R/Python programming.
    • Intermediate proficiency in designing and implementing statistical workflows.
    • Extensive experience in handling and analyzing big data with an ability to interpret results in the context of biological systems.
    • Experienced in communicating statistical concepts to both technical and non-technical groups.
    • Intermediate to advance proficiency identifying and solving complex issues during data analyses.
    • Intermediate to advance proficiency in managing and prioritizing tasks effectively.
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies and actively keep updated within the field. 
  • Strong knowledge of molecular biology and genomics methods.
  • Good ability to work independently and deliver data/projects reports according to established timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research environments.

 

Desirable and meritorious: 

  • Postdoctoral experience.
  • Practical experience in multivariate statistics, machine learning and statistical modelling.
  • Experience in teaching and development of teaching material.
     

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability as well as interpersonal skills. It is important that you are service-oriented and independent as well as have a results-oriented and problem-solving attitude. It is essential to have excellent communication skills in English since we have international co-workers and users.

 

Employment 

The position is a full-time, 100%, permanent position, placed at the Bioinformatics and Data Centre within the Core Facilities at the University of Gothenburg. A probationary employment period of 6 months may be applied. Start date as soon as possible based on agreement.

Applicants will be evaluated based on submitted documents, interviews, and references. Emphasis will be placed on documented strengths on knowledge and experience in developing and implementing statistical methods.
