At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a Researcher employment at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. 

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry provides world leading translational research spanning cell and animal models to clinical studies and extensive epidemiological studies. Here, ground-breaking research in areas such as bipolar disorder, addiction medicine, aging, neurochemistry and psychiatry are conducted.

The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine is a newly established research centre at the University of Gothenburg supporting molecular and translational medicine and is an effort to strengthen the life sciences in Western Sweden. In combination with the newly opened Imaging and Intervention Centre at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, there will be excellent resources for advanced research projects in medical imaging.

Duties

A major task for the applicant will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities, conceptually as well as methodologically. In particular, the person is expected to take an active role in our imaging work, applying and developing advanced imaging analysis methods. Further, there are possibilities to initiate individual research projects, based on the person´s interests. 

The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and independency and be able to work in a team and be willing to supervise students. Moreover, the candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in aging research and dementia, image analysis as well as manuscript writing.

Qualifications

To qualify for this researcher employment the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject related to the project such as e.g., Neuroscience, Medical science, and Biomedical engineering. 

We seek for a person with experience in the field of neuroimaging in healthy aging and Alzheimer’s disease research. The candidate should be able to conduct advanced image data processing/analysis. Previous experience working with machine learning and advanced statistical methods is required. Experience with both healthy elderly and Alzheimer’s disease patients are highly valued. Social and collaborative skills are very important since the applicant will be working with other members of the research team and collaborators.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability. 

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
