Our research group studies brain and behaviour in endocrine and metabolic diseases and we are looking for a new postdoctor. You will have a broad role within the project that focus on brain health in various metabolic diseases. Our aim is to map brain structure, function and cognitive abilities in these patients on the long-term, especially in relation to their treatment and disease severity. The project is part of a national study.

The department of pediatrics has a variety of specialties included such as diabetes, endocrinology, oncology, cardiology, neurology, neonatology, nephrology, immunology. The research group led by Professor Svetlana Lajic at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, pediatrics at Sahlgrenska Academy, studies brain and behaviour in endocrine and metabolic diseases.

The research group is seeking a postdoctor for a research project that focus on brain health in metabolic diseases. You will have a broad role within the project. Our aim is to map brain structure, function and cognitive abilities in these patients on the long-term, especially in relation to their treatment and disease severity. The project is part of a national study.

Subject area description 

Inborn errors of metabolism, rare diseases and cognitive neuroscience. 

Duties 

You will have a broad role within the project that focus on brain health in various metabolic diseases. As a postdoctor, you will participate in recruitment of study participants (children and adults), perform neurocognitive testing, and analyse data. As part of the team you will also be involved in the development of new projects focusing on the brain and cognitive functioning in these patient groups. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. 

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.   

Assessment criteria 

The applicant must have a PhD in a suitable field. Preferably you also have a background in cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, neuropsychology, behavioral science or a related field. We are looking for somebody with an open and curious mindset to explore rare diseases and the intersection between neuroscience and metabolism. You have an eye for scientific rigor and an interest in basic research questions as well as long-term patient well-being and functioning. Experience in acquiring neuropsychological data and neurocognitive testing of children and adults is mandatory as well as good social skills. Excellent knowledge in scientific writing and the English and Swedish language is mandatory. A diploma as a licensed Psychologist is preferred. 

Employment 

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, the department of pediatrics. Starting date; As soon as possible
