The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research
At the department of medical radiation sciences, research on various aspects and uses of radiation are included. Ionizing radiation is a part of radiation therapy and diagnosis with x-rays and radioactive substances, and non-ionizing radiation is included in diagnosis with ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Within environmental radiology, radiation sources in our environment and transport of radioactive materials in biological systems are studied.
Duties
The position as researcher is part of a research project aimed at developing expertise at the department of Medical Radiation Science within the field of Small Modular Reactors (SMR), focusing on radiation protection for workers, the public, and the environment. The work will include literature studies on radiation protection challenges related to the design of small modular reactors, with a particular focus on Sweden's needs. You will participate in international technical and scientific meetings and visit SMR locations to gain practical insights into current challenges and solutions. Additionally, you will modify and validate selected code for source term estimation to ensure their usability and precision. You will arrange meetings with relevant stakeholders and participate actively in work by the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors. Finally, you will identify future needs for education, exercises, and skill development in SMR designs that are relevant to Sweden and contribute to research funding applications.
Qualifications
The applicant must have a PhD degree in a subject relevant for the position, e.g. physics or radiation sciences. Experience of performing research as PI, writing grant applications and work in international networks are especially meritorious for the position. Other qualifications are excellent oral and, more importantly, written English language skills, proven ability to write coherent scientific text. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
Employment
The employment is a permanent position, full time and placed at the the Institute of Clinical Science, department of medical radiation sciences. Probationary period may apply. First day of employment: As soon as possible.
