The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a Researcher employment at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The research group Sahlgrenska Suicide Studies invites applications for a researcher within the project ”Mental Health and Suicidal Behavior among Older Adults in Long Term Care Facilities”.

Symptoms of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation are more prevalent among long term care facility residents compared to the general older adult population. Despite this, there is relatively little research on how such symptoms can be prevented or alleviated in this setting.

This research project includes both quantitative and qualitative components. The latter, which pertains to the employment described herein, aims to capture the experiences of residential staff, heads of staff, as well as older adult residents and their close relatives.

The research project, which is carried out within long term care facilities in the Västra Götaland Region, will provide knowledge that can be applied to improve mental health in older adults residing in long term care facilities.

Duties

You will lead focus group interviews with residential care staff and heads of staff at long term care facilities throughout the Västra Götaland Region, and carry out individual qualitative interviews with older residents with symptoms of depression/suicidality, and their next-of-kin. Other job assignments include transcription of interview material, as well as the production of scientific and popular science texts and other forms of knowledge dissemination. Other administrative and research activities may be included.

Qualifications

Requirements include a clinical background in nursing, clinical psychology, or other care profession as well as a PhD in the field of mental health or a related field. Research experience in qualitative methods is required. Swedish language fluency is required as focus groups and individual interviews are held in Swedish, and a driver’s license is a necessity. Experience of knowledge dissemination within mental health/suicide prevention is a merit. This employment requires a flexible mindset, and emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
