Postdoctor in Neurochemistry

Reference number PAR 2024/390

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

One of the research groups within the department is Neurochemistry, where neurochemical research is conducted with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases. The research group are now looking for a post doc with a positive can do attitude with extensive experience in translational science and laboratory work in relation to biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on microglia.

Subject area

Neurochemistry

Subject area description

Pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease include aggregation of specific peptides and proteins in the brain. Today there are three CSF and plasma biomarkers used for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, but these do not reflect the important role of microglia in the disease process. Thus, we need new markers that reflect microglia mechanisms to set an early and accurate diagnosis.

Job assignments

The job assignments include being involved in and leading different research projects, and together with other researchers and laboratory technicians in our team establish and validate new methods, to apply these methods to clinical neurochemical studies and ultimately to write scientific articles. Analysis methods include antibody-based methods such as mass spectrometry, ELISA, Simoa, but may also include additional techniques.
