The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment.

We address important societal issues such as antibiotic resistance, cancer, brain diseases, environmental problems and climate change. In this way, we contribute to achieving the UN's global goals for sustainable development in the areas of good health and well-being, sustainable energy for all, sustainable cities and communities, and combating climate change.

The department is responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department collaborates with various societal actors such as schools, business and authorities. The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology has around 200 employees. We are located in central premises both on Campus Johanneberg and on Campus Medicinareberget in Gothenburg.

The Tietze Lab is a team of post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate students. We are the part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine ( and focus on chemical engineering of bioinspired peptide-based molecules/ materials towards diagnostics and drug delivery (

As a part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine, we have a strong connection to other research groups in the Centre within the clinical and preclinical research.


Job assignments

  • Studying stability and conformational changes of proteins in ionic liquids
  • Biophysical analysis by UV-Vis, fluorescence, and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopies,
  • Laboratory work in a team setting
  • Writing scientific articles and projects


The candidate should hold a doctor's degree in physical chemistry and research experience in determining protein conformation and structure. Candidate should be able to work on a project of a multidisciplinary nature. Solid knowledge in physico-chemical methods. You must also have experience in mass-spectrometry (MALDI-TOF), UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, LC-MS and NMR spectroscopy. The applicant must show great initiative and must be willing to implement new ideas and approaches, to be able to work in an international environment. Good knowledge in both spoken and written English is a requirement. Furthermore, the applicant must be responsible, committed, and able to work independently, collaborate with scientists from other disciplines in lab and team environments. Candidate should have more than 4 years of postgraduate research experience.


The position is a time-limited employment for 6 months fulltime (100%), placed at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology in Gotenburg. Starting in March 2022.
