The Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts research in several different areas, such as endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology, and clinical nutrition focusing on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close collaboration with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Mölndal Hospital.

Krefting Research Center, Institute of Medicine, is recruiting an Assistant Researcher for a 1-year contract. Krefting Research Centre (https://www.gu.se/en/krefting-research). The main research at the center focuses on asthma epidemiology and allergy and respiratory research including inflammation research. The basis for the research is the ongoing "West Sweden Asthma Study", one of Europe's largest population-based studies of asthma and respiratory diseases, which started in 2008 in Västra Götaland. The research group focuses on mechanistic studies of inflammation in different asthma subgroups using both clinical samples and animal models.

Job assignments

The tasks includes practical laboratory work such as cell cultures and cell isolation from blood samples and tissue. The work also includes isolation of RNA (mRNA and miRNA) and proteins from cells and analysis by PCR and flow cytometry and western blot. The work is varied and may also include several other analyzes. An important part of the work consists of keeping accurate protocols and analyzing and summarizing results.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a bachelor degree in laboratory medicine (for example biology, biomedicine, biotechnology or other equivalent education), preferably with previous experience of laboratory work focused on research. Experience of cell culture (both cell lines and primary cells), protein and RNA extraction, western blot, real-time PCR, histological techniques, ELISA and flow cytometry are meritorious. Furthermore, some experience in bioinformatics is a desirable qualification. It is important that you are thorough, have a good ability to work in a team and that you can work independently. The work requires a good ability in English speech and writing, as the work environment is international. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
