The Department of Conservation offers professional degree programs and research on issues of cultural heritage, landscapes, cultural environments, buildings, gardens, cultural historical objects, and interiors. In Gothenburg, we offer degree programs for building preservationists, conservators, and leaders in the field of traditional handicrafts. Collaboration is an important component of what we do—collaboration among the different branches of the department, between degree programs and research, and with the local, national and international community. 


The department seeks an experienced conservator with specialization in conservation of objects made of modern materials and contemporary art.


The post involves teaching primarily in the Master’s courses related to the specialization Conservation of Modern materials. You will be asked to supervise students in the laboratory, design projects and deliver lectures, workshops, seminars on the subject as required. You might be asked to contribute to teaching of other courses for the MSc (Current Issues in Conservation) or the BSc and conservation of organic and inorganic materials.

The two courses on Conservation of Modern materials will run from February till mid-June. The applicant will have responsibility for the laboratory sessions and aims to provide students with knowledge and skills in the preservation of objects made of diverse materials such as painted metals, stone, composites, to name but a few. The courses discuss approaches to such materials. Different treatment methods are discussed in theory and supplemented with practical skills training. The practical work also includes the conservation of objects in the laboratory and in museums in Gothenburg and Stockholm as well as a week in Visby.


Qualifying to be employed as a visiting lecturer is the one who has demonstrated pedagogical skills and has undergone university education at advanced level or has equivalent skills or other skills relevant to the content of the employment. 

The applicant should have a Master’s in Conservation with a specialization in modern materials. We would like you to have experience of practical conservation work of modern materials in a museum environment. Teaching experience and work experience in Sweden will be considered an advantage.

You should have good knowledge in English, both speaking and writing. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a group, listens and communicates in a light and flexible manner. You should also have the ability to organize your work in a prioritized and structured manner and deliver within deadlines. 

Language of instruction will be English.
