About the department
At the Department of Applied Information Technology, critical and interdisciplinary research is conducted in an international environment of the highest quality with great relevance to the surrounding society. Our researchers are in the midst of the debate to help explain and problematize IT- and society-related challenges linked to the digitalization of society.

We develop the individual's knowledge and ability to analyze, understand and handle various aspects of IT as well as the interaction between human and technology in areas such as human-computer interaction, Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, digital innovation, e-Health, mobile communication, robots, social media and IT in schools and teaching.

We provide education at Bachelor's and Master's level anchored in research and the development of society.

The department is located at the knowledge-intensive Lindholmen, and has a well-developed collaboration with both business and public sector as well as the civil society.

About the division of informatics

The Division of Informatics consists of approximately thirty researchers who work specifically on issues related to digital innovation, open innovation, digital platforms and digitalization of the public sector. The researchers are regularly published in international top journals.

All teaching at the division's program, Master in Digital Leadership and the Bachelor's programme Information Systems reflect the strong research environment.

In both research and education, the division has a long tradition of working closely with industry and the public sector. The division hosts the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation, SCDI, and also offers contract teaching.

Subject area description

Swedish Center for Digital Innovation (SCDI) has established itself as a leading actor within the study of digital innovation and digital transformation. Through a significant donation from the Wallenberg Foundations, SCDI now has the opportunity to strengthen its operations with the Wallenberg Digital Innovation Program. The program involves an increased focus on outreach as well as a strengthening of the research environment with a grand, multi-year postdoctoral program.

Job assignments

As an SCDI postdoctor you will focus on conducting research and publishing on the highest academic level (AIS Basket of Eight, FTE50). You will be part of newly formed constellations where you will work in close collaboration with colleagues from both the Division of Informatics and the other nodes in SCDI; Stockholm School of Economics and Umeå University, as well as Rise and other partners from industry and the public sector. Your research is expected to be of stellar quality and lead to enhanced digital capabilities in industry and the public sector. We would like you to make a scientific contribution in one of the three fields below, but if you have a different focus this is also possible as long as it´s within the SCDI vision:

  • Digital transformation: e.g. digital change processes among incumbents, disruption, platform strategies.
  • Digital government: e.g. governance of public sector digitalization, open government, innovation in public digitalization.
  • Business consequences of AI: e.g. how AI impacts strategy and business models, decision making organizing, algorithmic work.

Qualifying to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is the person who has obtained a doctorate, artistic doctorate or who has a foreign degree considered equivalent to a doctorate. 
Those who have obtained a doctoral degree no longer than 3 years counting from last date of application should primarily be considered for the position. Also those who have obtained a doctoral degree longer than 3 years should primarily be considered, should there be special reasons. Special reasons are considered sick leave, parental leave, clinical duty, positions of trust within a trade union or other similar circumstances.


The assessment will be based on the candidate´s possibility to constitute a positive force within SCDI. This demands a high scientific ability (documented experience of qualitative and/or quantitative scientific methods, documented experience in the use and development of theory, experience of publishing in journals central to the Information Systems field), good cooperation skills and ability to interact with SCDI partners within business and the public sector.
The candidate shall master spoken and written English.
Furthermore, due to the wide recruitment of nine postdoctoral students at three universities (where University of Gothenburg is one) we will strive for complementarities in the final selection of candidates.

The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites to conduct and develop current tasks of the position, interact and collaborate with other staff, as well as contributing to a positive development of the Division and Department.


The position is a fixed-term employment of two years 100 %/full time - according to postdoctoral collective agreement - and is placed at the Department of Applied Information Technology, The Division of Informatics.
