At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The scientific work covers molecular and cell biological studies, integrative experimental studies, clinical research and epidemiology.

Job assignments

The advertised position is aimed at dynamic studies of white adipocyte adiponectin containing vesicles and succinate-GPR91 signaling. We are looking for a motivated individual with experience from research in the metabolic physiology area, with specific focus on imaging of exocytosis in live adipocytes. Techniques that will be used within the project encompass culture of white adipocytes, isolation of primary white adipocytes, molecular biology including cloning and generation of virus vectors for expression of fluorescently tagged proteins and high-resolution fluorescence microscopy (confocal and TIRF imaging) in fixed and live cells. Depending on the development of the project, combining imaging with electrophysiological recordings may be of interest.


To qualify as a researcher the applicant must hold a PhD in a relevant subject area, preferentially cell biological studies within the field of endocrinology/metabolism. The applicant is expected to have practical knowledge of several of the above listed techniques. Substantial experience of working with high resolution fluorescence techniques and appropriate analysis methods using programs such as Image J or MATLAB is a requirement. Previous experience from research involving white adipocytes, specifically studies of exocytosis mechanisms, is an advantage. A basic understanding of electrophysiological recordings is preferred. It is essential that the applicant authors publications in international journals or can in another way provide documentation of experience relevant for the assignment. We are looking for a person able to work independently within agreed frames and with good organizational skills. A very good command of the English language, in reading and writing, is a prerequisite. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.


The employment is limited (temporary) for 10 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
