The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Physiology.
We are seeking a motivated and talented post-doctoral researcher for driving an innovative research project. The candidate will have a key role in the project which involves multiomics, bioinformatical investigation of large cohorts as well as broad cellular and molecular techniques applied to increase the understanding of kidney function in health and disease. The candidate will be employed at the Institute for Neuroscience and Physiology and will be included in the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM https://www.gu.se/en/molecular-translational-medicine). The candidate will be a part of a collaboration between at the Sahlgrenska Academy and AstraZeneca. The current project has a clear translational focus and the candidate will have access to all environments and techniques available at the collaborative partner locations.
Medical sciences: kidney physiology and pathology.
Subject area description
The global incidence of kidney disease is rapidly increasing. Regardless of initiating event, kidney disease may result in dysfunction or death of kidney cells leading to acute or chronic kidney disease. We currently lack specific treatments for most forms of kidney disease. This projects aims at further understanding kidney function and cellular mechanisms thereby enabling novel treatment principles for kidney disease.
The candidate will be responsible for the project, coordinate the data analysis and use a broad repertoire of cell and molecular biology techniques to validate the in silico-detected signaling pathways relevant to disease development and progress.
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a
doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
The applicant must have a PhD degree in medical or biomedical science. The applicant should be an expert in cell- and molecular biology while experience in the area of kidney disease and bioinformatics is meritorious but not a requirement. The applicant is expected to plan, conduct and analyze experiments in an independent manner and to actively contribute scientifically to the group. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Emphasis will also be set on personal qualities. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
