The department was founded in 2009, and offers teaching and research in theoretical and practical philosophy, linguistics, and theory of science.

Subject area description

Ancient and Medieval Philosophy and Classical Philology (AMP) at FLoV offers education on all levels on the History of Philosophy together with Ancient Greek and Latin. Current research within AMP specialises on medieval logic, natural philosophy and translation studies with a focus on Greek and Latin literature. Job assignments

The appointed candidate will participate in and contribute to the further development of AMP’s research on natural philosophy and translation studies as well as participate in the AMP seminar series and international MA programme.

 

Eligibility

Eligible for a research position are those with a PhD or other foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to PhD. The subject of the doctoral thesis and/or other research publications should be in a research area relevant to the subject description above.

 

Assessment

Scientific proficiency will be given priority in the evaluation of the qualifications of the applicants. A strong scientific track record within the field(s) of the medieval reception of Aristotle’s works on natural philosophy and/or translation studies focusing on Greek and Latin literature will be considered as particularly important. The department is in this case looking for an experienced researcher, typically at the level of full professor. A record of academic leadership will also be taken into account.
