Research and graduate education at the department of chemistry and molecular biology comprises a wide scientific field from the atomic and molecular levels all the way through cells to intact organisms. Much of the phenomena studied here impact on our natural environment and living systems. We participate in undergraduate programs in chemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, biology, marine sciences, and pharmacy. 

We are seeking a person to contribute to a strong research program and add value to the on-going research in the Ewing laboratory at the University of Gothenburg. The topic of the work will be chemical measurements with nanoelectrochemistry with carbon nanopore electrodes and their application to analysis of the contents of vesicles. The goal is to understand the structure and dynamics of nanometer transmitter vesicles. The project will also involve using these methods for analysis of the contents of exosomes and stress granules. The person will have responsibility for mentoring a PhD student.

Job assignments

The job assignments mainly include planning, designing and carrying out research to develop electrochemistry at carbon nanopore electrodes to measure the contents of vesicles, exosomes and stress granules. Target applications will be in cellular neuroscience and transmitter vesicles, particularly the use of these methods to understand vesicle structure and dynamics. The researcher will be assigned to work with and mentor a PhD student.

Qualifications

A PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry is required with at least two years’ experience after the PhD and experience mentoring at least one PhD student. We are seeking someone with demonstrated experience in the design, fabrication, and application of carbon nanopore electrodes. Furthermore, we seek a person with experience in the analysis of catecholamines and reactive oxygen species at cellular organelles. The candidate must have experience in the design, fabrication, and application of carbon nanopore electrodes and must have experience in the analysis of nanometer cellular organelles. These areas are essential to the success of this project and applicants must have experience to be considered eligible.

Employment

Fixed term during one year, full time, 100% at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology.
