At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a Research Assistant position to work at a fish facility at the University, at the Department of Pharmacology. 

The Department with the research team are in need of assistance with laboratory and administrative tasks in relation to animal husbandry, since they are expanding their research.

Job assignments

Your duties will largely consist of caring for adult and larval zebrafish as well as participating in experiments. You will be responsible for the start-up and then the daily operation of several rack systems for zebrafish, which includes knowledge about water quality. Other tasks that normally occur at a fish facility, such as fish husbandry, fish breeding, washing dishes and tanks/equipment as well as cleaning is included in the work. You will also have some administrative tasks, such as keeping journal and supervise stock and ordering. Weekend work may be included.

Qualifications

For the suitable candidate, the following qualifications are a requirement:

- Approved course for animal experimental activities and thus eligibility for animal experimental research

- Education in animal health

- Experience of caring for zebrafish

- Previous experience of experimental research

- Good knowledge of English both orally and in writing

- Organizational ability and accuracy

- Ability to work both independently and in groups

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and previous experience of similar work.

Employment

The employment is a permanent position, 75% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed. Probationary employment may be applied.
