Research and graduate education at the department of chemistry and molecular biology comprises a wide scientific field from the atomic and molecular levels all the way through cells to intact organisms. Much of the phenomena studied here impact on our natural environment and living systems. We participate in undergraduate programs in chemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, biology, marine sciences, and pharmacy. The group is located at the Lundberg Laboratory and is equipped with all necessary infrastructure to carry out the mammalian cell biology studies, and near valuable collaborators for advanced methods such as analysis of lipidomes
To carry out semi-independent research related to better understand membrane homeostasis in mammalian cells with emphasis on the AdipoR pathway. This will involve mammalian cell culture, transfection, silencing of target genes using siRNA, measurements of gene expression using QPCR and Western blots, use of advanced microscopy methods including FRAP (Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching) and measurements of Global Polarization Index in images of cells stained with Laurdan dye, preparation of samples for lipidomics analysis. Also, the job assignment will include keeping abreast of relevant literature, analyzing and presenting data both orally and in the form of publications.
The successful applicant must have a PhD. Fluency in English is required. Competence in the following methods: mammalian cell culture, transfection, silencing of target genes using siRNA, measurements of gene expression using QPCR and Western blots, use of advanced microscopy methods including FRAP (Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching) and measurements of Global Polarization Index in images of cells stained with Laurdan dye, preparation of samples for lipidomics analysis are required. Prior experience working with the AdipoR pathway will be considered as an important merit.
