The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.
The normal gut microbiota represents at least 50% of the cells in the human body. By combining clinical and animal research we have demonstrated that the gut microbiota affects our physiology and metabolism. We are now recruiting a technician to be responsible for the microbiology efforts in the laboratory.
To be responsible for the groups bacterial strain library including archiving of novel strains. Prepare and develop new culturing media as well as culturing of anaerobic bacteria. The successful applicant will also isolate new strains by using aerobic and anaerobic methods and thereafter characterize these strains metabolically. She/he will also participate in DNA extractions from different biospeciemens for metagenomics analyses.
The successful applicant should have significant experience in microbiology at ‘BMA’/Master of Science level and experience of culturing and isolation of bacteria. It is a merit to have worked with anaerobic bacteria, especially using Coy chambers, and have experience in preparing and developing culture media. The successful applicant should have experience in establishing and maintaining a culture library.
It is a merit with experience in characterizing bacteria metabolically, with particular focus on anaerobic fermentations by intestinal microbes. If anyone with examine as BMA get the employment it will be as a biomedical scientist and if anyone else get it, it will be as a research assistant.
The successful candidate is expected to be at ease collaborating with other scientists within a larger team, and express him/herself in English in writing and speech. Large emphasis will be put on the applicants personal features.
