The Department of Social Work is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gothenburg. In an expansive and dynamic education and research environment, and with great citizenship, we give the social work education programme as well as comprehensive master's programmes, the Programme for Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy with focus on family as well as postgraduate education. The department has extensive international contacts and cooperations through various networks and agreements with universities around the world. The department conducts research in the area of social work, within the context of several profiles.

Job assignments

The job assignment includes teaching, research and collaboration with the surrounding society. The work consists primarily of teaching, supervision and examination within the social work programme on theories and methods of social work. Teaching is mainly at the bachelor and master levels, but teaching at PhD level as well as contract education may occur.

The employment involves participation in the department’s internal work and educational development, to fulfil the administrative tasks belonging to a teacher's appointment as well as to participate in and perform various management assignments. As externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the research activities of the department and individual teachers, it is included in the duties to actively participate in the department's endeavours to find external funding.

Qualifications

Regulations for the qualifications for academic position and the evaluation of these are given in Chapter 4, section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Eligibility Qualified applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer in Social Work must have a PhD in social work or other relevant field. The applicant must have showed pedagogical skills. The applicant must also have completed higher pedagogical education of 15 higher education credits or equivalent, alternatively, will be completing it within two years of employment.

Assessment

In assessing the qualifications, equal attention will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills. Research and teaching with a focus on social work with disabled people, mental health and/or older people as well as the management and organization of social work is especially meritorious. Attention will also be given to administrative skills relevant for the position. For the assessment of scientific skill, special emphasis will be placed on documented skills demonstrated primarily through publications with high quality. In addition, documented experience of participating in/obtaining external financed research projects will be assigned weight. It is also an advantage with participation in activities connected with research and development.

The applicant’s pedagogic skills have to be well documented, qualitatively as well as quantitatively. In evaluating the pedagogical skills, special attention will be given to proven experience of managing and planning education in social work. Proven supervision of students in first, second and third cycle are significant. Candidates are expected to be able to teach fluently in Swedish as well as have the ability to teach in English.

Applicants with a university degree of Bachelor in Social Work, Social care, Social pedagogy or other relevant professional university degree and documented experience of a minimum of two years of qualified professional social work will be ranked before other applicants with equivalent qualifications. We welcome applicants with experience from social work in some of the core areas within social work. Participation in collaboration between university and the surrounding society will also be accorded weight.

The weighted qualifications related to both subject area and qualified professional social work should be given special attention. General suitability with respect to the advertised position will be required. Special attention will be given to personal qualities required in order to be able to collaborate with others, internally and externally, as well as contributing to the development of the Department of Social Work’s education, and research activities.
