We now seek an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in computational mathematics with focus on multiscale problems and uncertainty quantification. The successful candidate will work in Axel Målqvist’s research projects and in close collaboration with Målqvist’s research group which belongs to the division of applied mathematics and statistics. The goal with this recruitment is to strengthen the collaboration with the industry and to be able to take on large scale problems.

Subject area description

At the Department of Mathematical Sciences there is research in various areas of computational mathematics. The purpose of this recruitment is to develop and analyze numerical methods for solution of partial differential equations with rapidly varying coefficients, uncertainty quantification, and variance reduction for Monte Carlo methods.

Job assignments

Development and analysis of numerical methods for solving: partial differential equations with rapidly varying non-periodic data, problems with immersed interfaces with high conductivity, and problems with data uncertainty. The implementation will be done in the open source library GRIDLOD.

The applications are design of composite materials, porous media flow, and simulation of x-ray equipment for medical purposes.

Eligibility

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and for this employment follows from the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg. You should have achieved a doctoral degree by the application deadline. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated in the advertisement, for example in applied mathematics or scientific computing.

Assessment

The successful candidate is expected to be comfortable with collaboration with other researchers and to contribute in different projects. Documented experience in development, analysis, and implementation of the multiscale method Localized Orthogonal Decomposition (LOD) is necessary as well as implementation in e.g. GRIDLOD. Experience in numerical methods for computing failure probabilities of solutions to partial differential equations with random data is methods highly advantageous. Large emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. Fluency in Swedish and English is expected as well as experience at working in interdisciplinary teams.  

Employment

The aim of an employment as adjunct senior lecturer is for the university to gain new skills and experiences in research and education that cannot be achieved solely through a  employment at the university. As adjunct teacher you should have your main part of  employment outside the university. The employment as adjunct senior lecturer should therefore be approved by your main employer in advance and it also requires that the funding of the position and additional costs are negotiated between the employers in advance.
