The Department of Political Science has an open climate which encourages involvement in broader societal debates. Research areas of specialization include elections, democracy, corruption, governance, globalization, environmental politics as well as European studies. The department houses research programs such as QoG institute, Center for Collective Action Research (CeCAR),Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), Governance and local development (GLD) and The Swedish Election Studies Program. The department offers education on all levels; undergraduate, graduate and PhD, carried out in both English and Swedish. We have a total of 1,300 students enrolled in our courses, and 140 people are employed at the Department. The Department is centrally located in the city of Gothenburg.

Why are some communities able to provide secure environments, good education, and adequate healthcare, and other factors that promote human development, while others fail to do so? The Program on Governance and Local Development (GLD) is a research program aiming to explain variation in governance and local development in an effort to promote human welfare globally. The Department of Political Science and GLD is now looking for one or several Associate Researchers/Grant writers. Fixed term position 8 months, extent fulltime.

Job assignments

The job assignment includes grant preparation such as searching for appropriate funding calls, working with GLD researchers to map projects and project timelines, undertaking background research as necessary, preparing budgets, writing text and submission as well as reporting on on-going grants. The job also will include supporting researchers with literature reviews, reviewing working papers, and other research-related tasks. During time the work tasks might vary by proportion and content.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone that has a bachelor degree or higher in a relevant field, preferably in the field of political science and extensive experience in successful grant-writing and reporting. Previous participation in larger-scale research programs and other projects are meritorious. The GLD research programme requires working with people from different countries and approaches, at times with very short deadlines. The candidate thus must be flexible and able to manage in stressful situations. The job requires that the employee both can work individually and in collaboration with others. All communication will be in English, therefore excellent skills in English are a requirement.
