The Institute of Odontology conducts research and postgraduate education in odontology science and is responsible for the basic education of dentists, dental hygienists and dental technician students and supplementary education of dentists with a foreign degree. In addition, the department conducts further education activities. The department collaborates with the Public Dental Health organization within the Region of Västra Götaland in clinical research and in the clinical part of the basic education of dentists and dental hygienists.

Subject area 

Cariology.

Subject area description 

Cariology is a central subject in the field of odontology and includes etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, epidemiology, prevention and treatment of diseases of the hard tissue of the tooth. It also includes the rehabilitation of dental tissue and the materials used.

Duties 

As a senior lecturer, you are expected to teach, take course responsibility, supervise and examine at basic and advanced level, as well as supervise degree projects within the dental and dental hygienist programs.

Participation in further education and training, such as for example course and program development assignments, as well as supervision in research and postgraduate training.

The position includes conducting research and actively seeking external funding for own research and for doctoral students when this is considered appropriate. It includes actively participating and collaborating within the department's research environments and seminar activities.

The position also includes administration and collaborative assignments, nationally as well as internationally, within the subject area in question.

If the applicant does not speak Swedish, he/she must be given the opportunity to learn Swedish within two years from the date of employment.

Eligibility 

Eligibility for employment as a teacher is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's own employment regulations.

Completed doctoral degree with relevance for current recruitment and demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Dental license.

If the appointed candidate does not master the Swedish language at the time of employment, he or she must within a two-year period acquire this at the level required to be able to teach. 

Assessment criteria 

Assessment grounds for employment as a teacher are specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's own employment regulations.

The assessment criteria are primarily scientific and pedagogical skills which are weighted equally. 

When assessing the scientific skill, special emphasis will be placed on the quality and originality of the research efforts, ability to plan and lead research, researcher supervision and ability to communicate research with the surrounding society. Special emphasis will be placed on peer-reviewed publications in international journals. 

When assessing the pedagogical skills, special emphasis will be placed on experience in teaching, supervision and examination in education at basic, advanced and postgraduate level, as well as other pedagogical activities. Experience in the development of courses and educational activities. The skills must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the educational activities.

Clinical competence that can be applied in the teaching situation is particularly meritorious.

Completion of higher education education is desirable. 

During the appointment, management skills as well as the ability to cooperate and collaborate as well as administrative skills will also be taken into account. Experience of international research collaborations is meritorious.

Other information

If the applicant lacks formal higher education pedagogic training at the University of Gothenburg, the applicant is expected to have completed higher education pedagogic training or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge within one year from the time of employment at the latest. The examination of such university teaching qualifications must take place in a special order in agreement with the decision of the Vice-Chancellor.
