The research group in Biochemical Process Engineering wants to recruit a Research Engineer to participate in research concerning valorization of lignin isolated via organosolv fractionation of wood biomass for high end applications.
The research group in Biochemical Process Engineering is responsible for a versatile laboratory with key competencies for bio-based products and processes that include pre-treatment of biomass, fractionation, fermentation, conversion processes, green chemistry, upstream and downstream processes. Biochemical process engineering (https://www.ltu.se/research/subjects/Biochemical-Process-Engineering) develops integrated processes that combine biotechnology and chemistry to produce food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and energy carriers. In particular, the subject focuses on using bio-based raw materials (forest residues) and developing processors for biorefineries. The research topic consists of 10 senior researchers and several doctoral students.
The project concerns the evaluation of the flotation performance of novel flotation collectors consisting of lignin nano- and micro-particles. Specifically, the job requires the physicochemical characterization of the lignin particles and evaluate their flotation performance in 0.5-8 L flotation cells and Hallimond tubes by using different sources of sulfate and apatite ores. The candidate will also be responsible for the preparation of the lignin particle collectors by using organosolv lignin available in the biochemical process engineering group.
To be eligible for employment, you must have a bachelor's, master or civil engineering degree in mining engineering or mineral processing or relevant field. Previous documented laboratory experience is required. Experience in using flotation cells and especially for the evaluation of the collectors’ performance is a very strong merit. Previous experience in relevant analytical techniques, such as particle size analysis, XRF/XRD and FTIR is also a very strong merit.
We are looking for a very motivated person with a strong interest for research, a strong intellect and disciplined work habits. You must be able to function both independently and as part of a research group. Good observation and communication skills are important. In addition, you should master English, both spoken and written.
Fixed-term fulltime employment for 1 year. Appointment as soon as possible, but no later than August 2021. Place of employment is Luleå.
