Creaternity is an interdisciplinary research initiative to achieve the transition to a sustainable society. Creaternity Graduate School spans over many research subjects at Luleå University of Technology to create a holistic view in order to tackle the sustainability challenges. The Graduate School includes courses and other activities that will provide doctoral students with knowledge and tools to determine how the earth’s resources could be used and reused in the best way.

The international research subject of building materials consists of 15 persons including 3 professors and one post doc. The subject focusses on development of sustainable materials and production technologies for the construction industry as well as on ice and arctic conditions related re-search and education.

Subject description
Building Materials includes sustainable building materials and their application technologies, recycling and reuse, and applied building physics, especially focusing on the artic conditions.

Project description
This project aims to develop a new sustainable building material with a lower carbon footprint then traditional concrete materials. This material should contain by-products from the timber production. The materials will also be studied for re-cycling and re-use.

This project will be implemented as a part of Creaternity research activities:

As a PhD student you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals.

The PhD student will be part of the Creaternity Graduate School, in a strategic research and development project. The project will be implemented in cooperation with other subjects at LTU within Creaternity.

Eligible candidates must have a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Material Science (with a focus on building materials) or equivalent (according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 7 39 §).

In addition, you have high analytical, problem-solving skills. You are highly motivated, task oriented and perseverant. You should be comfortable to work independently and in a team depending on the situation. You should be willing to actively participating in the Creaternity Graduate School.

You can work both with practical and theoretical work and have very good oral and written communication and presentation skills in English.

Advanced knowledge of concrete technology and geopolymers is an advantage.

Further information
A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Employment as a PhD student is limited to 4 years. The PhD position will be opened once co-financing is secured. The position is located in Luleå.
