We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Automation Section in the ICS division. 

The Automation Section team is responsible for the development and integration of PLC-based Control Systems in the entire ESS facility. 

About the work

As summer worker your main areas of work will be to develop a model to tune the PID parameters of the Cryogenic Moderator System Control System via Machine Learning, using as training set a subset of the real data collected over the years. A final document/report of the work done is expected to be released at the end of the assignment. The work should be accomplished with the support of the assigned supervisors.

About you

A suitable background for this work would be:

  • General knowledge on machine learning.
  • Very good software skills, in particular in: 
    • Python
    • open-source python libraries for machine learning
    • Git (or similar version control systems)
    • Windows and/or Linux OS
  • Good written and oral communications skills in English

Duration & Location.

The position is a summer work position of a total of 8 weeks, which is divided in two sessions as follows:

  • The first 6-week session should be focused on learning and working thoroughly on the assigned tasks
  • The second 2-week session should be focused on the wrap up of the work done and to prepare the relative documentation and the presentation to the ICS Automation Section meeting.  

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. 

Start date
There are two possible starting dates:

The first proposed start date is the 2024-06-03, with a break between the two work sessions due to the summer holidays. The first sessions would end on the 2024-07-12, and the second session would start on 2024-08-05, for the remaining two weeks. 

The second proposed start date is the 2024-08-05, with no break between the two sessions.
