The European Spallation Source ERIC, ESS, is hiring motivated and inspired people to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS is looking for a Scientific HPC System Officer to support the team within the Data Systems and Technology group in Copenhagen. 

About the team
The tasks and responsibilities of the team include but are not limited to supporting, designing, deploying and maintenaning the data center that will store the data produced at the ESS campus facility currently being constructed in Lund, Sweden.

About the role
As the successful candidate and future Scientific HPC system officer you will:

  • Drive the deployment of new IT hardware and services for scientific computing;
  • Develop and maintain script for deploying services;
  • Partake in the designing of the infrastructure for scientific computing for a large scale research facility;
  • Act and report on hardware and service incidents;
  • Act and report on INFOSEC risks and incidents.

About you
Requirements include:

  • A Masters or Ph.D in computer, technical or natural sciences (such as computer science or physics);
  • At least 3 years of experience in a HPC or big-data environment is preferred;
  • An ability and interest working in a cross-cultural team environment and good interpersonal skills;
  • Full professional proficiency in English, written as well as oral.

Strongly preferred to have experience in:

  • Infrastructure as A Service;
  • OpenStack, OpenNebula, ProxMox or similar virtualisation environments;
  • HA and site-to-site fail-over services;
  • Design and implementation of high capacity/high performance storage systems or large virtualisation systems;
  • Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Copenhagen, Denmark. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
