We want to change the future of industrial production and maintenance! Are you interested in helping us develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions in real-world cases?

Chalmers University of Technology offers a faculty position as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the area of Production Systems, with focus on Industrial Digitalization. This position is offered in collaboration with a company in the energy sector, aiming to increase competitiveness through predictive and Smart Maintenance using AI. Are you a motivated and enterprising researcher, ready to be the link between university research and industrial application? This is an opportunity for you!

Chalmers and the Division of Production Systems
Chalmers is one of the leading universities in industrial digitalization for sustainable and competitive manufacturing. The Division of Production Systems is a young and rapidly growing team of more than 30 cross-disciplinary researchers, teachers, PhD candidates, and support staff. The Division has a good gender balance and a high diversity. We are engaged in research, education, and innovation; both nationally and internationally. We collaborate closely with industry in design, deployment, operation, and maintenance of future industrial production systems. Our advanced research facilities and new labs for industrial digitalization enable deep involvement in national and European projects. As an example, our Stena Industry Innovation Laboratory is co-located with one of the five local centers of the new European EIT Manufacturing initiative. The Division of Production Systems is part of the Department of Industrial and Materials Science, see more about our department and our division here.

Our three research groups work in the domain of Industrial Production Systems. Some typical areas for research and education are: production maintenance; advanced production data analysis and AI; VR and AR for production design; connectivity for people and machines using 5G; digital sustainability assessment; human collaboration with automation and robots. This specific position will be in the research group called Production Service and Maintenance Systems, a team of 9 researchers passionate about modernizing maintenance in a digitalized industry. You can find additional information about our research groups on our division webpage.

The position also includes close collaboration and possible supervision with the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers.

Work content and responsibilities
The offered post-doc position is in the field of Production Service and Maintenance Systems, a cross-disciplinary field applying AI in an industrial context. You will primarily be involved in a research project together with one of our close industrial partners within the energy sector. Parts of your work will be done on site to facilitate access to data and process expertise, so you will have work-places both at Chalmers and at the partner company.

Your challenge and responsibility will be to modernize and improve industrial maintenance operations using advanced data analysis and AI. You will be responsible for the collaboration between Chalmers and the partner company within this specific field. We also expect you to stay up-to-date on and contribute to the state-of-the-art within fields such as AI, Machine Learning (ML), predictive maintenance, and prognostics and health management, so you can inspire development in this and other projects within the research group.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

We believe you have a genuine interest in AI and its application in industry. You have a PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, mathematics or similar. We are also interested in candidates with a background in electrical or industrial engineering with proven skills in advanced data analysis and AI.

You will be the link between Chalmers and the partner company for Smart Maintenance research. Therefore, it is important that you prove qualities in research utilization and collaboration with society. Experience from research in industry or the public sector is a merit and so is education and experience in project management.

The research group in Production Service and Maintenance Systems currently includes 9 researchers. We expect you to be a team-player, because we value close collaboration within our team to share ideas and competences between our different projects.
