The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. The Fiber-Optic Research Center (FORCE) at Chalmers is a dynamic and creative group with about 30 members working in an international and collaborative atmosphere. We perform both curiosity-driven and applied-research in the areas of optoelectronics, nanophotonics, signal processing and fiber optic communication systems. This project is funded by the Swedish Research council (VR) and deals with the development of emerging and compact light sources for large scale datacenters. We will work on developing transmitter technologies for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). This includes VCSELS for coarse WDM short-range interconnects and microresonator frequency combs for long-reach cluster fabric interconnects. This project is about developing interfaces for these WDM sources with silicon photonic components.
The project will be carried out at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) which is one of the three departments that participates in FORCE. There will be a strong collaboration with our partners at the Technical University of Denmark.
The work involves design and measurement of silicon photonic components. These will be fabricated using both our cleanroom facilities and external foundry sources. We expect you to develop and contribute with your own ideas. The Postdoc position is limited to 1+1 years. This means that there will be an evaluation after one year. If positive, the contract shall be extended for one more year. The work is 100 % devoted to your own research project. You will have the opportunity to supervise a small team (2-3 persons) of PhD students.
We seek an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with theoretical and experimental background in integrated photonics with a PhD in physical sciences or engineering. The PhD degree should generally not be older than three years. The candidate should have the following skills:
• FDTD or FEM simulations of photonic devices and components (COMSOL, RSoft, etc.)
• Layout design of masks for fabrication of photonic components in multi-project wafer runs
• Measurement and characterization of micro and nanophotonic devices
Experience in cleanroom fabrication and/or coherent communications and/or microresonator frequency combs is a merit.
The candidate should be fluent in English and have excellent communication skills.
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
