Information about the division and the research
The Group for Advanced Receiver Development (GARD) carries research in the field of Terahertz technology. GARD research activities include elements of low-temperature physics, superconducting electronics, material science and thin-film technology. This research has main applications in instrumentation for radio astronomy and environmental sciences. Being internationally recognized with its state-of-art Terahertz instrumentation, GARD was and is participating in large-scale international projects, such as Herschel HIFI, ALMA and APEX.

The prospective postdoc will be involved in development projects aiming to achieve ultra-wadeband RF and IF performance of the superconducting tunnel junction (SIS) mixers for next generation receivers for APEX, ALMA, EHT.

Major responsibilities
- Simulations of waveguide structures and circuits in HFSS
- Mixer chip (MMIC-like) development using HFSS, ADS and MatLab
- Characterisation of the fabricated mixers
- Report writing
- Writing and publication of Scientific articles
- Involvement in teaching activities for courses at graduate/master of science level

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is initially limited to a maximum of two years (1+1). Successful and well performed person will be considered for an extension.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, terahertz technology or material science; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

It would be of great advantage for the applicant to have previous experience in low temperature physics or superconducting electronics or Terahertz instrumentation, both in development and experimentally. We expect and appreciate a high level of ambitions from the candidate and the ability to work in a team.
