Camurus is looking to strengthen the Research & Development organization with a PhD student in collaboration with Malmö University. Research project title ”Nanostructured lipid composites for long-acting parenteral drug delivery”.

About the project
This project is a part of Industrial Graduate School of Biofilms and Biointerfaces (ComBine) that involves Malmö University and several industrial companies. As a PhD student you will be full time employed at Camurus and enrolled as a student at Malmö University. You will spend 80% of the time on research project and 20% on work-related tasks at the company.

The aim of research project is better understanding functional properties of Camurus proprietary FluidCrystal® injection depot technology such as hydration and self-assembling characteristics that affect in vivo behavior, active pharmaceutical ingredient interactions with depot matrix, spontaneous and accelerated in vitro drug release characteristics. The ultimate goal is the creation of predictive model describing the relationship between an in vitro properties of the FluidCrystal® injection depots and in vivo behavior (in vitro in vivo correlation, IVIVC).

Candidate profile
In order to be considered for appointment as a PhD student, you must meet the general entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes. The research topic is “Biomedical science” and the Faculty examine Doctors of Philosophy (i.e., in Swedish: Teknologie doctor, Doktor i medicinsk vetenskap and Medicine doctor).

You must have a Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy or similar disciplines. You should have knowledge of lipid/surfactant self-assembly, physicochemical characterization of pharmaceutical formulations (e.g. DSC, isothermal calorimetry, X-ray and/or neutron scattering, microscopy techniques, in vitro dissolution/drug release testing and similar), data interpretation using mathematical models. Hands-on experience of working with pharmaceutical excipients (lipids, polymers) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (peptides, proteins) are further merits. Documented excellent level of English (understanding, speaking and writing) is essential. You are also expected to be able to present the results in the form of reports and manuscripts.
